Christianists embarass the US

Will wackos never cease? Apparently not. A Hindu priest invited to offer the traditional prayer for the US Senate was heckled and interrupted by Christianist protesters today.

The Times of India reports:

Christian[ist] activists briefly disrupted a Hindu invocation in the US Senate on Thursday, marring a historic first for the chamber and showing that fundamentalism is present and shouting in the US too.

Invited by the Senate to offer Hindu prayers in place of the usual Christian invocation, Rajan Zed, a Hindu priest from Reno, Nevada, had just stepped up to the podium for the landmark occasion when three protesters, said to belong to the Christian Right anti-abortion group Operation Save America, interrupted by loudly asking for God’s forgiveness for allowing the ”false prayer” of a Hindu in the Senate chamber.

Shakesville observes:

Of course, this is further proof of what most of us already know: the idea that everyone’s faith is respected in this country is a bunch of hokum.

John Cole:

Lunatics. Remember who these festering scumbags are when the GOP engages in recreational gay-bashing in a few months to get their votes.

See it for yourselves.

  1. […] Greg Prince’s Blog points out the international reach of the protest and calls the behavior embarrassing which he backs up by citing an article in the Times of India. Yes, the potential for association makes my stomach sour as well. […]

  2. It is just as embarrassing for the VAST majority of Christians, many of whom condemned this action. The blogosphere has a serious problem with over-generalization!
