Wishful thinking among moderates

My Dutch friend, Michael van der Galien, has an interesting statement up at his site.
It’s a shame that America is so greatly divided among partisan lines that a, say, McCain – Obama ticket isn’t an option. That would be quite the ticket, wouldn’t it? Obama, the young, seemingly inspirational VP, McCain the highly experienced moderate Republican, with terrific national security and foreign policy credentials.
Now, it’s not the first time that international observers don’t quite “get” what they’re seeing.
There’s a lot of starry-eyed optimism about the candidates themselves. Obama is hardly the naive youngster with a fresh slate. He’s a product of the Chicago machine. And McCain is a true conservative, hardly a moderate, no matter how many times the media fake screaming orgasms over his “renegade” and “rebel” status within the GOP caucus.
Neither man is a moderate, neither man is interested in endorsing the opposing party’s platform.
Again, we see a process fetish, and people whine about how the system is broken, but don’t really have policy ideas that stand out from the pack.
