Playing Peoria

Despite the cracks about gay cowboys on late-night TV and chin-stroking about whether it would play in Peoria, “Brokeback Mountain” is poised to be not just one of the most praised films of the 2005 Oscar class — it will become one of the most profitable movies of the year, and a mainstream one at that.

Indeed. What kills me are the whining laments from those who can’t be bothered to actually see the film. I have seen it, and while the doomed love and relationship angst schtik isn’t my typical fare, I have to admit the film is legitimately what the critics content. It really is good. Not something I’d see a dozen times, but no chick flick is.

I haven’t seen it, but then I never go to the movies anymore. Since the kids rarely want to see what we want to see, we’re about 99.99% DVD oriented around here.
Which isn’t to say I won’t see it – I certainly will when it’s available on DVD. The “doomed love and relationship angst schtik” isn’t my thing either, but hey, I’ve got to watch a few things the wife wants to see in order to be allowed to watch new Milla Jovovich films when they come out
